Yesterday was Fasnacht Day, the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch tradition for the Tuesday preceding Ash Wednesday (the beginning of the Christian holy season of Lent). It is celebrated with the eating of donuts. When we lived in Bethlehem, PA, there was a special bakery where my office would get their Fasnacht donuts. The best ones were the cinnamon roll ones covered in a chocolate buttercream icing.
Our donuts were not quite so spectacular but were still pretty darn tasty. The children definitely approved.
We missed celebrating last year's Fasnacht Day because of having a brand new baby in the house, but here's a look back at 2014.
