Things You Should See: Twin Peaks

I have a confession: I just discovered Twin Peaks a couple of months ago. I'm not one for scary movies, nor am I a big fan of 80s/early 90s television, but Twins Peaks a goofy quality to it and the clothes are fantastically wonderful/awful that it's become one of my favorites. Here's a list of the the characters I either like for their character or for their wardrobe.

Kyle MacLachlan plays FBI Agent Dale Cooper and is my favorite character on the show. He's obsessed with good coffee, has absurd, one-sided conversations with his secretary via a tape recorder, and has bizarre dreams about a giant man and a midget.

Look! It's Laura Flynn Boyle (or LFB as I call her in my head). Actually, her character is Donna Hayward, and I find her rather annoying. I do like her clothes though, especially that plaid shirt and vest getup.

Audrey Horne is the daughter of Ben Horne, the hotel owner who goes temporarily insane and thinks he's a Civil War general (I told you it's an absurd show). Audrey starts out as as sulty brat, but ends up becoming a responsible business woman. She's way more fun than Donna, and she also has great clothes.

Along with Agent Cooper, Lucy is my favorite character. She's absurdly ditzy, and she reminds me of a crazy coworker I used to have (I think it's the hairdo). I'm also a big fan of her sweater collection.

Nadine Hurley is a middle-aged woman who loses her mental capacities for a while and thinks she's a teenager in high school again. She also wears an eyepatch through most of the episodes which reminds me of another work colleague who will randomly wear an eyepatch somedays to work.

Major Briggs will always be General Hammond to me; I appreciate the fact that in TP he looks like he just walked out of the SG-1 mountain bunker.

The Log Lady is just that. She walks around carrying a log that she believes can talk to people. What's not to like?

I highly recommend Twin Peaks for all it's charm and goof. Be forewarned though, there is a bit of creepiness to it, so if you're the type that has to look under the bed for murderers and crazies each night, then make sure you watch TP in the daylight.

  1. I think I know which co-worker that you speak of! Please note that Kyle MacLachlan grows up to be Charlotte's husband on Sex and the City, and he is quite delightful in what is often a thankless role. Given the images which you display here, I am kind of intrigued to see Twin Peaks (which I embarrassingly also have not seen!)--and yet I have the feeling that it would freak me out too much, living in a creaky Victorian abode!
