Lookbook Comparison: Anthropologie, July 2011

I don't know what rock I've living under the last couple of weeks, but I just recently saw Anthropologies's July 2011 catalog. As usual, the outfits are gorgeous. I thought I would try to recreate some of the looks with items from my own closet that were similar  in terms of color and/or shape.

1. Most of my long-sleeve button-up shirts are packed away for the summer, but this shirt escaped banishment because of it's sheerness (is that a proper word? I don't know). Together with the fitted skirt, I got a similar silhouette to the one from Anthro, though the colors aren't right.

-Shirt: thrifted, H&M
-Skirt: thrifted, vintage, Newport News
-Earrings: thrifted, vintage
-Belt: thrifted
-Sandals: thrifted, vintage

2. I have no shirt that even comes close to that green/black color combo and the only shirt with that shape is actually a sweater--not happening in this heat wave. The purple shirt isn't far off in shape, so I paired it with blue pants (jeans will not fly in the office, not even high-waisted ones).

-Shirt: Ann Taylor
-Pants: J.Crew
-Necklace: my mom's
-Broach: thrifted

3. This is the closest approximation to one of the Anthro outfits I could get. The style of the shirt and the skirt are a little off, but close enough.

-Shirt: thrifted, Tweeds
-Skirt: thrifted, Divided by H&M
-Belt: random ribbon
-Earring: thrifted, vintage

4. The colors of the shirt are similar, but mine has a brown collar that called for a brown skirt with some pattern. This is the one outfit that I didn't plan out beforehand so it was thrown together a few minutes before I left for work. If I had taken more time to think it through, I would have tried getting closer to the silhouette instead of the colors as I don't think the baggy shirt + baggy skirt is working.

-Shirt: thrifted, Merona
-Skirt: thrifted, no tag
-Earrings: gift from friend

This Lookbook Comparison project was good fun and I got some outfits out of it that I probably wouldn't have come up on my own. I think I'll try to do one or two more with different brands before the summer ends.

  1. Love this! If you felt like doing something similar when Banana Republic's Mad Men collection comes out, there'd be no complaints here :) Wherever the muse takes you next... so inspiring!

  2. BR is doing a Mad Men collection?! See, I must still be under that rock! Consider that a Will Do! I'm thinking maybe Toast or Madewell may make some good comparisons too!
